Item A computational model of bilateral credit limits in payment systems and other financial market infrastructures(Elsevier, 2023) Bewaji, OluwasegunItem A bibliometric analysis of trust in the field of hospitality and tourism(Elservier, 2021) Palacios, Hugo; Helena de Almeida, Maria; Sousa, Maria JoseThe emerging field of trust has evolved dramatically with an increasing number of academic publications in this area. However, there is a lack of better clarification to draw a global picture of scientific knowledge, from a statistical perspective, using the three structures of knowledge: conceptual, intellectual, and social, to obtain a structured overview of its characteristics, identify dynamic aspects and find intellectual representations. This paper presents a new insight into scientific production through bibliometric (Bibliometrix) and network (VOSviewer) analysis, not previously fully clarified in hospitality and tourism. A total of 305 articles published between 2004 and 2020 were analyzed, covering 580 authors, 19 journals, and 43 countries. This research’s main findings showed that trust is one of the most decisive variables in the digital market, and keywords such as satisfaction, loyalty, service quality are closely related. The results provide clues for further investigation in this field.Item A bibliometric overview of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management: Research contributions and influence(Elservier, 2021) Sigala, Marianna; Kumar, Satish; Donthu, Naveen; Sureka, Riya; Joshi, YatishThe Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management (JHTM) has been growing from strength to strength, and it is currently widely recognized as one of the top ranked journals in its own field. This study represents a first attempt to provide a comprehensive overview of JHTM publications from 2006 to 2020 in order to identify the research developments and trends that signify the evolution of the journal’s research contributions and influence. To achieve that, several bibliographic indicators are used such as, bibliographic coupling analysis, co-authorship analysis and keyword co-occurrence. Overall, in line with the journal’s impact factors and rankings, the bibliometric analyses confirm the increasing research contribution and influence of the journal in terms of quantity and quality of research outputs. Thematic analyses findings reveal that the JHTM has continuously published articles focusing on original and contemporary topics including: tourism experiences, service quality, hospitality management skills, work-family conflict, sustainability and responsible tourism. Overall, the findings provide meaningful insights to help the JHTM editorial board and the scholarly community alike to formulate research agendas and inform research strategies that can help them to make a significant and influential contribution to the scientific field.Item A Comparative Analysis of Competency Expectations between Tourism Professionals and Tourism Academicians(2016) NagarjunaEducation is one of the strongest foundations which enable an individual to develop his competency and skills. Education also helps in making positive contributions towards the creation of wealth and quality of life. Educational institutions transform the life of the individual and also makes him contributeto the welfare of the society and organization he or she works for. The organization looks for those candidates who can contribute to the growth and development of the organization through his or her ability and skills. Education institution has to develop skills and abilities among the students which meet the competency expectations of the organization. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether tourism education meets the competency expectation of the tourism industry. The main objective of this study is to find out the gap between competency expectations of tourism academicians and tourism professionals. The scope of the study covers institutions which offer tourism education in Bangalore, Shimoga, and Mangalore. The study also includes service sectors such as travel agencies and tour operators, hotels and airlines within Bangalore. The targeted respondents of the study are tourism faculty members of institutions and tourism professionals in service organizations. Both primary and secondary data are considered to collect the data. Statistical tools such as correlation, paired sample test are used to analyse the data. The study found that there is a gap that exists between perception of academicians and tourism professionals on the benefit of tourism degrees and also insisted more relevant curriculum that meets the needs of the industry. This study also suggested various measures that would help education institutions to meet the expectations of industry by providing skilled workforce.Item A comparative analysis of the financial performance of commercial banks after mergers and acquisitions using Nepalese data(Elsevier, 2023) Adhikari, Baburam; Kavanagh, Marie; Hampson, BonnieItem A comparative study of eight COVID-19 protective measures and their impact on Swiss tourists’ travel intentions(Elservier, 2023) Hüsser, Andreas Philippe; Ohnmacht, TimoA comparative vignette-based experimental survey design incorporating various socio-psychological factors, linked to the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the Domain-Specific RiskTaking scale (DOSPERT) was carried out to test variations in eight travel-related COVID-19 protective measures on Swiss tourists’ travel intentions. Among the tested measures, vaccination passports, surgical masks and quarantining are those that stand out the most, with surgical masks having the greatest acceptance and will - ingness to adopt while traveling. Quarantining, on the other hand, appears to have a deterrent influence on travel intentions, and vaccination passports have the lowest perceived barriers during travel, but the highest perceived benefits in mitigating the spread of the infection. The discussion of individual differences has specific implica tions for tourism management against the background of our empirical findings.Item A Compendium of Practices for Central Bank Digital Currencies for Multinational Financial Infrastructures(IEEE Access, 2020) Opare, Edwin Ayisi; Kim, KwangjoItem A Compendium of Practices for Central Bank Digital Currencies for Multinational Financial Infrastructures(IEEE Access, 2020) Opare, Edwin Ayisi; Kim, KwangjoItem A computational model of bilateral credit limits in payment systems and other financial market infrastructures(Elsevier, 2024) Bewaji, OluwasegunItem A construal level view of contemporary heritage tourism(Elservier, 2023) Scarpi, Daniele; Raggiotto, FrancescoPsychological distance is “a subjective experience that something is close or far away from the self, here, and now” (Trope & Liberman 2010, p. 440). This research investigates heritage tourism from the perspective of Construal Level theory, which postulates that individuals mentally represent objects and events by adopting either low or high construal levels. We show that heritage tourism leads tourists to adopt a higher psychological distance and therefore a higher construal level. In turn, this higher construal negatively affects destination loyalty and perceived uniqueness. However, authenticity and engagement moderate the heritage–construal relationship, counterbalancing the higher psychological distance induced by heritage. We explore these re lationships in two studies focusing on contemporary heritage sites. This further allows to compare visitors’ mental representations of the experience, based on their memory type. The paper concludes by addressing im plications for theory and practice.Item A critical review of the motivational factors for festival attendance based on meta-analysis(Elservier, 2016) Maeng, Hae Yeong; Jang, Hyeong Yu; Michelle Li, JinxiThe primary purpose of this study was to trace the origin of major motivational factors for festival attendance used in previous studies. In addition, the study showed that these motivational factors are not suitable for use in festival planning or design, thereby highlighting the need for brand-newmotivational factors for festival attendance to be developed in the future. A meta-analysis of 46 research articles was conducted and 70 motivational factors for festival attendance were extracted. These factors were divided into the following five categories: socialization, escape, excitement, learning, and shopping. However, since these motivators were taken from studies related to motivators for tourism, the authors argue that they are not suitable to be used in regards to festival attendance. The main contribution of this study is to provide clear-cut evidence of the need to conduct future students that focus exclusively on motivations for festival attendance.Item A financial stress index for a highly dollarized developing country: The case of LebanonIshrakieh, Layal Mansour; Dagher, Leila; Hariri, Sadika ElItem A flexible predictive density combination for large financial data sets in regular and crisis periods(Elsevier, 2023) Casarin, Roberto; Grassi, Stefano; Ravazzolo, Francesco; Dijk, Herman K. vanItem A Hybrid Model for Financial Time Series Forecasting—Integration of EWT, ARIMA With The Improved ABC Optimized ELM(IEEE Access, 2020) He, Yu; Li Jing, Ming; Ruan, Sumei; Zhao, ShupingItem A Kaleidoscope of play: a new approach to play analysis in childhood(Taylor & Francis, 2023-07-17) Sparaci, Laura; Gallagher, ShaunPlay is a frequent and relevant activity during childhood, and developmental psychologists agree that it offers a unique window on development. Play, however, remains a fuzzy concept, and difficulties persist in its definition, often leading to obstacles in building and comparing experimental studies. This may be due to widespread tendencies to define play by referring to non-observable inner states, to consider playing something that occurs in the head rather than in-the-world and to overreliance on developmental stages. Enactive approaches to child play have instead recently stressed the importance of play contexts, considering child play an activ ity in-the-world rather than a mental state, thereby de intellectualizing play and pretense. Along these lines, in this paper the authors propose a novel approach to the definition of play types by considering the roles of organism, environ ment, and task constraints, within the framework of Material Engagement Theory. Focusing on the material world sur rounding the child and the interactions which characterize play, we critically review the strategy of resorting to non observable categories in the study of play, and we propose a new model (the Kaleidoscope Model) for play analysis.Item A latent class approach to examining migrant family travel behavior(Elservier, 2021) Yankholmes, Aaron; McKercher, Bob; Williams, Nigel LDespite numerous studies suggesting the presence or absence of children influence family vacation travel, there has been little focus on migrant families. Latent class analysis was used to create empirically derived travel behaviour clusters of Western professional migrant families with and without children based on their motive to move, self-concept and how they construct a sense of home in the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions of China. The analysis identified six distinct classes. Three groups were families without children and the rest were those with children. Each segment has markedly different travel behavior patterns with differences in demographic and migration characteristics also apparent. Implications for tourism management and future research are discussed.Item A literature review of implementing virtual reality in hospitality education(The Authors, 2023) Meulen, Frederik Jan van der; Vries, Marit deThis article provides a systematic view of the published research topics relevant to an understanding of using virtual reality (VR) in hospitality education. The structure of the literature review is based on the PRISMA reporting guidance and reviews two main elements: the status of VR embedded in hospitality education and the learning frameworks best fitting VR in education. Using the Google Scholar, Science Direct, and EBSCO databases, the present review found relevant articles. The included papers were classified with the following dimensions: year of publication, hospitality industry domain and search keywords. A total of 51 articles were deemed relevant and were reviewed. These articles focused on different aspects of the hospitality education, including virtual reality technologies (VRTs), applied learning frameworks, design and evaluation of VR. The results highlight among others that VRT can be integrated in (design-based) teaching and is seen as a valuable addition. Also, VR has a strong effect on student learning, especially the technology itself and classroom design. Fundamentally, a social constructivist learning framework fosters a good basis for including VRT in education. These results provide potential directions for hospitality educators, researchers and practitioners in future research efforts to enhance the correct use of the virtual learning environment in education and training of practical aspects in the hospitality industry. Key implications of this study include the call for determining the appropriate level of VRT most suitable for the development of virtual learning environments (VLE), the online learning programmes and how to motivate the students the most.Item A meta-analytic review of antecedents of hospitality and tourism firms’ performance: A cross-cultural comparison(Elservier, 2021) Lim, SangGon (Edward); Ok, Chihyung MichaelDespite the magnitude of scholarly understanding of firm performance, there has been no robust statistical metaanalytic review of antecedents of firm performance in hospitality and tourism journals. Therefore, this study conducted Hunter-Schmidt random-effects meta-analyses on the relationships between firm performance and its predictors based on Kaplan and Norton’s balanced scorecard framework. This study identified fourteen antecedents of firm performance, and all proposed relationships were significant. This study also examined the moderating role of culture on the relationships at continental- and national-approaches by adopting sample ztests and meta-regression. This study found the moderating role of culture on seven relationships at the continental-level comparison and identified corresponding cultural dimensions responsible for the degree of the relationships. This study expanded the literature on firm performance and contributed to strategic and financial management literature. Based on findings, the authors presented several important practical implications.Item A model of community-based festival image(Elservier, 2010) Huang, Joy Zhuowei; Li, Mimi; Cai, Liping A.This study initiates an original inquiry into the image of community-based festivals (CBFs). A CBF image model was proposed and empirically tested based on existing destination image models. Four image constructs were identified as Attributes, Family and Friendliness, Affective Association, and Overall Evaluation. The interrelationships among these constructs were tested by structural equation modeling. The findings revealed that Attributes affects Family and Friendliness and Affective Association, which in turn, affects Overall Evaluation. This study also included visitor loyalty in the understanding of CBF image. It was found that repeat visitors had more favorable perceptions of the CBF than did first-time visitors. Significant perceptual differences were found in Family and Friendliness, Affective Association, and Overall Evaluation between the two groups of festival goers. In addition, it was revealed that loyalty exerted significantly negative interaction effects on the relationship between Attributes and Family and Friendliness, as well as the linkage between Family and Friendliness and Overall Evaluation. In addition, this study illustrated the importance of the support of local residents for CBFs. CBF planners and local tourism organizations would benefit from this study in terms of cultivating visitor loyalty to these festivals and building the destination’s brand.Item A model of community-based festival image(Elservier, 2010) Huang, Joy Zhuowei; Li, Mimi; Cai, Liping A.This study initiates an original inquiry into the image of community-based festivals (CBFs).
