| dc.description.abstract | Idioms are so common that they play a significant role. Idioms are used in newspapers, movies, and literary works, especially in advertising language. Also, the English used by native speakers is often idiomatic. Therefore, it is not easy to speak, write, or listen well without understanding these idioms,especially in American English, which is considered highly idiomatic. One reason is that it needs a new interpretation when coming up with a new concept. But rather than creating entirely new words, they often combine existing words with new meanings.This happens not only in English but in all languages known to humankind. This study deals with translating selected idioms from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, translated into Vietnamese by Duc Duong and Bui My Hanh. The primary purpose is to explain,analyze and interpret how selected English idioms are translated into Vietnamese. This research is based on a theoretical part focused on representation theory. Define idioms and idioms and match these expressions based on dictionary and language skills. In addition, this study addresses the idea of translation from foreign languages in general, focusing on the translation of idioms, their techniques, and possible shortcomings. The research method describes the actual process of real parts. The comparative materials consist of the original text, its Vietnamese translation, and selected dictionaries (3 English dictionaries and 1 Vietnamese dictionary). The conclusion summarizes the analysis based on the research question. In addition, selected books are introduced, especially their particular and unmistakable words. | |
