Translation is a discipline that requires translators to be knowledgeable about the language and culture of both the source language and the target language. Additionally, the application of appropriate procedures in translation is decisive for the success of the translation. This thesis is a corpus-based genre study which focuses on passive structures, exploring a number of translation procedures based on the theories of some translation researchers / linguists around the world, and also uses one corpus to extract data including pairs of English - Vietnamese passive sentences. The study carries out a mixed- method research design using Vietcorpus as a main corpus to exploit data and collect samples. In the analysis section, the author selects 12 English works (which have the same average length size about 150,000 words/ each) and 12 corresponding Vietnamese translated versions to outline some of the main translation procedures used by the translators, along with appropriate comments and explanations, and the translation procedures which can be used in the process of translating English passive structures into Vietnamese.vi
