dc.description.abstract | We are very excited about this newly revised edition of Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy: A Multicultural Perspective. Our mission in writing this book has always been to provide future counselors and therapists with a solid foundation in the theoretical concepts of the major theories of counseling and psychotherapy; to enable them to take these theories directly into counseling and clinical practice; to assist them in examining present-day counseling and therapy from a practical cul- ture-centered perspective while simultaneously respecting traditional individual approaches to the field; and to start them on a journey toward skillful practice. While the sixth edition offers thorough insight into many of the theories discussed in the last edition, we are particularly excited to introduce students to new movements in the field that are having a significant impact on counseling and psychotherapy. This edition continues to bring Multicultural Counseling and Therapy to the table as a distinct approach to integrating theory and practice and incorporates new think- ing throughout, including feminist theory and social justice perspectives. Positive psychology/wellness perspectives are also introduced. | vi |
